THE KEY CLUBHOUSE of South Florida seeks Executive Director
Position: Executive Director
The Board of Directors of the newly organized Key Clubhouse of South Florida, located in Miami-Dade County, Florida, is actively soliciting resumes from qualified individuals for the full-time position of Executive Director.
The Key Clubhouse of South Florida, Inc., is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to afford people whose lives have been disrupted by mental illness the opportunity to recover meaningful and productive lives through reintegration in the workplace and the community. It was founded by family members and mental health consumers seeking better psychosocial rehabilitation and employment services for people living with serious mental illness. The founders chose the ICCD Clubhouse model because of its excellent track record in transforming the lives of people living with mental illness.
The Executive Director will work in partnership with a strong Board of Directors, Clubhouse members, staff, and community leaders to develop the first independent Clubhouse program based on the standards of the International Center for Clubhouse Development (www.iccd.org) in Miami-Dade County.
Responsibilities:
The Executive Director provides leadership, vision and direction to the Clubhouse community in pursuit of its mission. The Executive Director will first work with the Board to raise additional funds for the new Clubhouse, locate and develop an appropriate site for the Clubhouse, and engage the first Clubhouse members in Clubhouse operations. On an ongoing basis, the Executive Director is responsible for the active recruitment of eligible Clubhouse members from the community; the hiring, firing and managing of employees of the Clubhouse; fund development; administering the budget; public relations; contract management; and publicly presenting the mission and vision of the Clubhouse. She/he is responsible for the imaginative implementation of the International Standards for Clubhouse Programs as put forth by the International Center for Clubhouse Development (www.iccd.org).
- Oversight and management of the day-to-day operations of the Clubhouse
- Preparation for and attendance at Board meetings and Board committee meetings
- Coordination of communication between the Clubhouse and members of the Board
- Recruitment, hiring, supervision and termination (as needed) of all Clubhouse staff
- Successful management of the annual budget development and monitoring process and the ongoing financial activities of the Clubhouse
- Fund development and fundraising activities for the Clubhouse
- Public relations activities for the Clubhouse
- Transitional Employment Development and cultivating employer relationships for the Clubhouse
- Obtaining and maintaining Clubhouse Certification from the International Center for Clubhouse Development
- Timely communication with the Board of Directors and other organizations related to the Clubhouse concerning serious incidents, issues or concerns
- Production of all required reports and information to government and other organizations providing funding to the Clubhouse
- Responsibility for ensuring that there is significant and meaningful participation of Clubhouse members in all aspects of the Clubhouse organization
- Maintaining a current knowledge about issues in the community relevant to the mission and operations of the Clubhouse
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree preferred
- Minimum employment experience of 5 years that includes 1) working with individuals who have chronic mental illness and/or co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse disorders and 2) experience in nonprofit or human services management, preferably in developing and managing a start-up nonprofit organization
- An understanding of and belief in the recovery process and the Clubhouse model and sensitivity to the issues of people living with serious mental illness
- Demonstrated leadership, financial management and fundraising skills
- Experience working with boards of directors or advisory boards
- Ability to work with a diverse group of people
- Excellent writing, public speaking and computer skills
- Highly organized and focused, self-motivated, with excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to handle multiple tasks
- Strong work ethic and a willingness to work flexible hours
Additional Information:
- Willingness to attend a three-week, paid, out-of-town ICCD training course
- Clear understanding, ability to articulate, and a commitment to the values and standards of ICCD Clubhouse model programs
- Bilingual speaking ability in English and Spanish and/or Haitian-Creole preferred
- The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors.
- The Executive Director is authorized by the Board of Directors to act on behalf of The Key Clubhouse of South Florida, to speak for the organization and manage the day-to-day operations of the Clubhouse. The Executive Director is authorized to enter into contracts and agreements on behalf of the organization.
- The starting salary is competitive and will depend on qualifications and experience.
