Fountain House Residence Staff Position

Position Description and Candidate Qualifications

Position:Residence Staff

Fountain House is an organization that empowers individuals with mental illness to achieve goals in a non-traditional social setting.  The expectation is that staff will work closely and collectively with members and staff to achieve the mission and vision of Fountain House, and will foster an atmosphere of collegiality and congeniality that facilitates implementing and sustaining the basic philosophy of Fountain House, in alignment with the International Standards for Clubhouses.  Those seeking to work at Fountain House have a desire to make a difference in the lives of individuals with mental illness by creating, developing and fostering relationships with members that envelop growth and self-worth.  The key to succeed at Fountain House is based on respect, self-help, teamwork, goal-attainment, empowerment, leadership, vision, awareness of cultural differences and passion for making a difference in the life of those we touch, without regard of race, religion, age, sexual orientation, disability or perception thereof, but most of all, “Treating others like they would like to be treated”.

Job Functions:

  • Engage and work alongside members in the residence or apartment to perform necessary tasks for the upkeep of the residence and the well‑being of members.
  • Assist members with all aspects of community support services and case management work (including housing and entitlements, clinical linkage and follow-up, etc.).
  • Establish and update goals and record progress of members, with members.
  • Prepare and submit paperwork (including service plans, progress notes, plan reviews, etc.), in a consistent and timely manner.

Other Requirements or Preferred Characteristics:

  • BA/ BS required, particularly in a relevant human services field
  • Working knowledge of mental illness, including previous relevant paid employment
  • Positive, energetic, dynamic and engaging personality
  • Flexibility, as demonstrated by interchangeability with other staff in the residence, staying late or arriving early, if necessary to fulfill residence or member needs
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Team approach
