The ICCD and Foutainhouse Stockholm welcome you to attend
the
16th International Clubhouse Seminar
to be held in Stockholm, Sweden, July 9–14, 2011!
We are delighted to announce that the 16th International Clubhouse Seminar will be held July 9-14, 2011 in the beautiful city of Stockholm. It is wonderful to have the opportunity to hold our Seminar in Stockholm, as Fountain House in Stockholm was the very first Clubhouse to be established in Europe! In 1983, as the international Clubhouse community was in the infancy of its development, the Second International Clubhouse Seminar was held in Stockholm. It is a wonderful celebration of the extraordinary worldwide expansion of the Clubhouse movement, as we now return to Stockholm 28 years later for our 16th International Seminar!
Fountain House Stockholm was established in 1980. The Clubhouse credits Mrs. Lis Asklund, a Swedish film maker who had travelled to New York and made a TV movie about Fountain House in New York City, with the inspiration for opening a Clubhouse in Sweden; and Mr. Nils Hallerby, a former city counsellor, who made it financially possible to open the Clubhouse. Mrs. Asklund, Mr. Hallerby, and Her Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden , have all accepted invitations to be honorary members of the Clubhouse! Today, Fountain House Stockholm is a vibrant, thriving ICCD certified Clubhouse in the heart of Stockholm.
The first word most visitors to Stockholm use to describe it is “beautiful” -- and that it is! Stockholm is a major international city with great shopping, quality eateries in abundance, fabulous hotels, an internationally renowned
club and music scene and a vibrant cultural life. What sets it apart from other cities, though, is its sheer natural beauty.
Stockholm, as a city, is over 700 years old and spreads across 14 islands as it faces proudly out to the Baltic Sea. You can get to just about all of Stockholm’s many wondrous sites on foot, which is the perfect way to see the city. You can also take a boat trip that will give you a different view of Scandinavia’s largest and probably most beautiful city.
Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, lies on a number of islands and peninsulas at the outflow of Lake Mälaren into the Baltic, where it forms a deep inlet. The charm of its setting lies in the intermingling of land and water, with its
intricate pattern of waterways encompassing the city. Stockholm was the “European City of Culture” in 1998 and has three distinct UNESCO World Heritage sites. The city has a very active cultural life highlighted by 70 museums and many theatres. The European Union named Stockholm as the Environmental Capital of Europe for 2010, the first time ever that this award has been given.
The Seminar will be held at the Clarion Hotel in Stockholm. The hotel is ideally located. It is close to a subway station, only 10 minutes to the Stockholm Central station, and 45 km (29 miles) from the Arlanda International Airport. The hotel is located in the Södermalm district, where one can find trendy bars and restaurants, excellent shopping and art galleries. There is a sauna and a small pool near the top of the hotel, overlooking the beautiful city.
The 16th International Clubhouse Seminar promises to offer an exciting and inspiring array of learning opportunities about creating and sustaining strong, effective Clubhouse communities around the world. Plenary sessions, interactive workshops, and exciting social events will provide a compelling forum for the exchange of information and ideas of interest to new and veteran Clubhouses.
Please mark your calendars and begin preparations to attend this important Seminar. Listed below are the costs for the seminar per person. As in previous years, the full Seminar fee includes Seminar registration and materials, a welcome reception, five nights lodging at the Clarion Hotel, five breakfasts, four luncheons, and the Gala Banquet. Differences in prices are based on the type of package chosen as well as a discount for Clubhouses that are members of the ICCD. As always, our Seminar policy is to keep prices as low as possible for all attendees, and therefore, there are no scholarships available from the ICCD. All prices are per person in U.S. dollars.
